Contraceptive Controversy of the Day: President Obama today tried to distance himself somewhat from the Department of Health and Human Service’s decision to overrule the FDA’s recommendation that girls under 17 be allowed to purchase the Plan B contraceptive — also known as the “morning-after pill” — without a prescription.

It’s things like this that really make me sick. I’m pro-choice and as a woman, knowing that I have an option like Plan B is comforting. It doesn’t make me more promiscuous. I have friends who have used Plan B and it probably saved their lives.
This decision is a step in the wrong direction of the progress that needs to be made to support women’s right to chose. Girls under 17 need a prescription? This pill is effective because you’re supposed to take it within 24 hours.. who can actually get a prescription in 24 hours? Men need to stop making these decisions for women - and women need to get their heads out of their asses and realize the following things: 1. having a baby is a personal decision… no one should tell you what to do (aside from the support of family). 2. Anyone under the age of 17 living in the US shouldn’t be having kids. 3. The world is over populated 4. Not everyone is meant to raise a child. Why must policy makers still treat this country like its the 1920s? And how dare the President of the United States say that it was “out of his hands”.
